DUTIES
- Using ESRI ArcView 3.3 software, Microsoft Excel and Access, I managed, created, distributed, and analyzed GIS data on a daily basis for all seven management divisions of Mount Rainier National Park.
- Maintain and manage Trimble and PLGR gps units and integrate gps data into Mount Rainier National Park’s GIS. Train and assist ecologists, glaciologists, and rangers in use of GPS and data collection.
PROJECTS
- 2000 Summit Crater Ice Depth GPS Survey – Climbed to and camped on Mount Rainier’s summit to provide GPS/GIS support to a team of glaciologists whose goal was to map the ice depth on the mountains main summit crater. Using a Trimble Pro XRS, I acquired highly accurate gps data along the team’s radar survey path. After a successfully finishing the climb, I post processed the gps data in Pathfinder Office and provided lead researcher Erin Pettit with raw gps, and shapefile data.
- Predictive Lynx Habitat Model – Using ArcView 3.3 Model Builder, I extracted variables from landuse, vegtype and dem raster data along with necessary vector themes to quantify and qualify areas within Mount Rainier National Park where Lynx habitat characteristics existed. Model results were used to determine the scope of a Lynx hair snag survey, which I later provided further GIS and GPS support for.
