DUTIES
- Using ESRI ArcGIS software, Microsoft Excel and Access, I managed, created, distributed, and analyzed GIS data on a daily basis for all seven management divisions of Glacier National Park.
- Maintain and manage Trimble Pro XRS, GeoXT, GeoExplorer III, Garmin, and PLGR gps units for park research, and field work. Integration of gps data took place within Pathfinder office, DNR Garmin, and ArcGIS 9.0.
PROJECTS
- 2003 Wildland Fire Management - Acted as the primary GIS data manager and cartographer for all fire related activities within Glacier National Park during the historical 2003 wildfire season. I worked under the supervision of the Glacier National Park Fire Effects Specialist Dennis Divoky. Twice, I provided GIS analysis, GPS/GIS integration, and cartographic support to Dennis behind evacuation lines.
- Viewshed Mapping - (G) Used ArcMap 8.3 spatial analyst to create viewshed maps of each file lookout within Glacier National Park. These products allowed fire management branch to report on the number of forested acres each fire lookout could survey. Extensive ground truthing revealed very positive results.
- GPS Trail Mapping – Using a Trimble Pro XRS, GeoXT, and a Garmin III, I collected 360 miles of hiking trail, and 654 features of cultural significance for use in the Glacier National Park GIS. Integrating GPS data into the GIS took place using Pathfinder Office, and DNR Garmin. I equipped the Trimble units with data dictionaries to expedite field data collection, and trained an intern in the use of GPS equipment and data collection.
- USGS Global Change program – Within ESRI ArcMap 9.0, I utilized my aerial photo interpretation skills to produced three, 1:12,000 scale polygon shapefiles representing the 1998, and 2003 minimum extents of Sperry, Chaney, and Harrison glaciers. I provided GIS/GPS support to the USGS global change glacier mapping program on an as needed basis during my employment with Glacier National Park.
- Wildlife Pattern Analysis - Work with wildlife biologists to create wolf home range maps for use in published reports.
- FGDC Metadata – Using ArcCatalog 8.3, I created over 70 FGDC compliant metadata xml files that were published to a National Park Service web site.
